The triathlon events held this weekend in the city of Viña del Mar were a total success. Athletes from more than 20 countries made a circuit that included 20 kilometers of cycling, 750 meters of swimming and 5 kilometers of jogging, the same distances that will be held at Santiago 2023.
These competitions, in addition to confirming Chile as a country capable of hosting world-class events, also served to fine-tune details for what will be Santiago 2023. This is because the circuit raced by the athletes will be exactly the same as the one of the games.
On Saturday the 12th the National Championship was held, and in the age group category the podium was made up of Juan Araya, Benjamin Moya and Carlos Cortes in men’s. While in women’s the winners were Sofia Balmaceda, Antonia Meza and Catalina Dura.
On November 13 it was the turn of the Continental Cup. In the men's category, the podium was made up of Ramon Maturte (first place), Pennock Ruseel (second place) and Wood Solen (third place). For their part, in women’s the winners were Romina Biagioli (first place), Leslie Amat (second place) and Sofia Howell (third place).
During the same day, the World Cup took place with multiple emotions, since the dispute for first place was not defined until the last minute. Thus, the winners were Juan Castro (Spain), Diego Moya (Chile) and Jawad Abdelmoula (Morocco).
