With 25 candidates to the National Technical Official degree (NTO) and another 16 for International Technical Official (ITO) in the wheelchair rugby Parapan American sport, the Santiago 2023 Corporation keeps working on training the staff needed to develop the competitions fully following the regulations established by each federation.
The trainings are in charge of the American commentos Robert López -technical delegate from World Wheelchair Rugby (WWR) for the Parapan American Games,- and the Canadian Jean Choirene, the lessons starting from this Thursday up until Sunday in the classrooms of the Centro de Entrenamiento Olímpico (CEO) in Ñuñoa and the court of the Gimnasio Municipal de Cerrillos, on the occasion of the closing tournament of the National Paralympic Rugby Federation (Federupa).
The NTOs training focuses on the Services to the Federations program of the Sports management from the local organizing committee for the Games, while the corresponding to the ITOs - with students coming from Costa Rica, Peru, Colombia, Argentina and Chile,- has the support of “Road to Santiago 2023,” an initiative of the International Paralympic Committee and managed by the Parapan American Planification and Integration area.
WHAT IS WHEELCHAIR RUGBY ABOUT?
It's a Para sport that can be played with males and females on the same team, which are made of four players, presenting different levels of impairments. To summarize, It's about scoring as many goals in the opposite goal area as possible crossing with the wheelchair the line of the opposite goalline.
At Santiago 2023 this discipline will be at the Centro de Deportes Paralímpicos, a construction at the interior of the Parque Estadio Nacional, and will gather 72 athletes coming from six countries, between these, the host: Chile.
