We are getting closer and closer to the start of the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games, reason why the delegations from each country are working to adjust some details to have the best possible experience while getting closer to the event that will gather almost 2 thousand athletes and will be competed in 18 disciplines, all of these having the Metropolitan Region as their venue.
In this context, the past days the Santiago 2023 Corporation received the visit of a numerous group of representatives from the Canadian Olympic Committee -the second visit of this kind after Colombia-, who visited different essential points while getting closer to the Parapan American Games, like the Parapan American Village in Cerrilos, Metro de Santiago and Parque Estadio Nacional.

Catherine Gosselin-Després, director of the sports area of the committee, about this different instances “We brought a huge delegation for this visit, since we want to get familiar with the locations, the athletes village and the whole city, a lot of canadians have never been in Chile, so we wanted to make sure that our athletes will get the best there is and getting as much information as possible,” she said.
About the impressions of the convoy about the Chilean capital, Gosselin-Després comments “everyone seems to have loved the city, we have felt people receiving us in such a good way. We liked the food, the restaurants were very good and people gave us a very good vibe. Additionally, we have felt safe in Santiago, which doesn’t happen everywhere, so it has been a great experience up until now.”
On this line, she also said that the outpost staff, around 20 people, felt delighted with the Parapan American Village. “It is still in construction, which is great. I do think that everyone really liked it, since the venues are not far away, something important for a paralympic team because of the accessibility,” she said.
THE GOALS IN SANTIAGO 2023
The Canadian Paralympic Committee projects more than a thousand para athletes from their country at Santiago 2023. “We want to work as hard as we can to end up high on the medal count, even though we know we will need to compete against strong countries like Brazil and Peru,” she concluded.
The Pan American Games will take place from November 17th to the 26th of next year and between the main previous milestones we have the Chefs de Mission Seminar, occasion on which delegates form the 33 participant countries will meet.
