The board of the Santiago 2023 Corporation participated in an extraordinary session last Thursday, March 23th, with the objective to define the new president of the board. In the presence of all members, it was decided the new Minister of Sports, Jaime Pizarro, to be the person in charge of leading it.
In this special session participated Miguel Ángel Mujica, president of the COCh and vice president of the board; Sebastián Villavicencio, president of the Copachi; Claudio Orrego, governor of the Metropolitan Region; Aquiles Gómez, vice president of the COCh; Elisa Araya, rector of the UMCE, and ex athletes such as: Marco Oneto, Blanca Durán, and Cáterin Bravo. Among them, Gianna Cunazza, the Santiago 2023 Chief Executive Officer, and the Deputy secretary of Sports, Antonia Illanes, attended the key meeting.

After being officialized in the position, minister Pizarro indicated that “I’m honored to be chosen for leading this board that fulfills an important function for the Pan American and Parapan American Games. From this position, I’m wishing to share my sport knowledge and encourage the work along with all people and parts that are involved, in order to have an event of excellence.”
The aforementioned board of directors has as its duties, along with other functions, leading and managing the Santiago 2023 Corporation, in accordance with the Law, statutes, and general assemblies agreements. In practical terms, it is reflected in the development of the strategic plan and the presentation of sport, financial, and economic results reports of the Corporation General Assembly. In addition, they will monthly supervise the work developed by the executive board.
