Yasmani Acosta revolutionized Cerrillos at the signing of the collaboration with the Santiago 2023 Games

The wrestler, one of the ambassadors of the Pan American and Parapan American Games, performed an exhibition to the students of the Doctor Luis Vargas Salcedo school, in the Cerrillos district, which will host three sports during the continental event.

This past Wednesday, the Team Chile wrestler Yasmani Acosta was the protagonist during the signature of the collaboration agreement between the Santiago 2023 Corporation and the Municipality of Cerrillos, which will host baseball, softball, and sport climbing.

The agreement, signed at the Liceo Polivalente “Dr. Luis Vargas Salcedo” school, seeks to form a collaboration to boost activities related to education, sports, culture, and recreation in the local community, among other elements related to the continental multisport event.

In this context, the athlete, who got 4th place in the last Olympic Games and is one of the main national competitors in the current Olympic cycle, showed up at the Southwest area of the Chilean capital as part of the corporate program called “Conoce a tu estrella” (Meet your star).

“Being here reminds me a lot of my childhood. It was a cousin of mine who invited me to a wrestling gym and I started playing there, as any child would, and then I realized I was liking it more and more,” responded Acosta in a round of questions organized by the students themselves. These students are part of the public education system at Cerrillos, which on average is composed of 30% of immigrants.

The athlete, born in the small town of Agramonte, western part of Cuba, appreciated the current multicultural estate of Chile. “It’s good that more foreigners come and try to elevate the country, and that Chileans get to know other cultures. It’s not necessary to travel to do so, because being here you can share with them, ask them questions, how’s life in other countries, it’s enviable that I don’t have to travel to know about other cultures,” reflected the athlete.

Yasmani Acosta will travel to Croatia to begin with the final stage of his preparation for Santiago 2023, which includes training and competitions in Europe, returning from time to time to the country.

MAJOR OF CERRILLOS: “IT’S SOMETHING WE’VE RECEIVED FOR THE FIRST TIME”

Along with the sport disciplines, Cerrillos will also be the house of a big chunk of the 9 thousand athletes and Para athletes who will visit the country between October and November next year. The district major, Lorena Facuse, talked about how they’re working to receive such a large number of people.

“Over a year ago, we began with working meetings with Santiago 2023 and the Sports Ministry, setting all the details up for what it means to receive such an amount of athletes. It’s something we’d never had before in our district and we’ve preoccupied ourselves with everything that will happen, along with all the institutions and government agents,” indicated.

Furthermore, the Chief Officer of Commercial, Marketing and Communications, Juan Carlos Chamy, highlighted the activities to get closer to the communities in their own spaces: “these are the initiatives that fill our souls and are essential to the role of the Corporation, taking athletes and Para athletes to schools so these can share with Olympic athletes. I’m sure the children will never forget this moment of being with an Olympic athlete.”

The Pan American Games will take place from October 20th to November 5th, this year, and will gather 39 sports and 60 disciplines, followed by the Parapan American Games, from November 17th to 26th, with 17 sports and 18 disciplines. Competitions will be hosted in 21 districts of the Regions of Valparaíso, Metropolitana, O’Higgins, and Biobío.
