We’re nearly 213 days away from the opening ceremony of the Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games, competition that, among its novelties, has the debut of three urban disciplines.
The most important multisport event in the history of the country will also be a qualifying instance for 33 Pan American disciplines towards the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. To be more specific, #Santiago2023 will give 21 direct qualifications to the Olympics and 12 through a ranking system.
After the debut of skateboarding and sport climbing at Tokyo 2020 this feat will be repeated as those disciplines, along with breaking, will debut at #Santiago2023. These play an essential role because of their urban roots, bringing youth, emotion, and enthusiasm, as well as opening the gap between Olympic and street sports.
Next, check the details of what these disciplines are all about
What sports will debut at the 2023 Pan American Games?
BREAKING
One of the biggest novelties in #Santiago2023 is breaking, the urban dance style that is part of the Hip-hop cultural movement. It mixes dancing, acrobatics, skill, and abilities of the athletes to move at the rhythm of the music.
Breaking pioneers formed crews to compete in dance battles on the street, for the territory or the respect. Today, it’s an official Olympic sport with thousands of participants worldwide.
Its original steps, along with urban melodies, skill, and agility draw the attention of the younger ones. In these Pan American Games, breaking will give a quota for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
