On Wednesday, March 15th, the deadline for the first phase of media accreditation to cover the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games expired, with a record number of registrations for this type of event.
In this first stage, where media expressed their interest in covering the event, a historic total of 1,887 requests were registered for professionals from 634 journalistic companies around the world, including prestigious agencies such as Reuters, Getty Images, Agence France-Presse (AFP), Associated Press (AP), and EFE.
Demand from Chilean media accounted for 40% of the total (754 requests), followed by sports and communication powerhouses such as Brazil, the United States, and Argentina. Compared to Lima 2019, which had 1,500 accredited journalists, interest in Santiago 2023 grew by 25%.
“The success of this first stage makes us very proud, but also mindful of the responsibility of receiving even more journalists and photographers from all over the world, compared to the last editions of the Pan American Games,” stated Romulo Macedo, Head of Press Services from the Organizing Committee.
“The high number of requests in this phase reflects the work of the entire team at the Santiago 2023 Corporation, dedicated to delivering games that meet the expectations. Now we are certain that on October 20th, the eyes of the world will be on Santiago,” he added.
The press accreditation process for media that participated in the first phase will continue with the entry by name stage, which will begin on April 17th and end on June 23rd.
The Pan American Games will be held from October 20th to November 5th and will bring together about 7,000 athletes from 41 nations who will compete in three regions of the country: Metropolitan, Valparaiso, O'Higgins and Biobio.
