23/03/22 | The images are truly impressive. And being there is even more so, in the three months after the setting of the first stone, the progress is satisfactory. From the 17-tower complex that are considered in the construction of the Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Village, 10 are already showing significant progress with several floors, including one of the buildings reaching its tenth floor in its base construction.
This progress was inspected on-site by the President of Panam Sports, Neven Ilic, who visited the site and inspected the works together with the President of the Chilean Olympic Committee (COCh) Miguel Ángel Mujica.
On the occasion, personnel from the infrastructure division from the Sports Ministry and the National Sports Institute also participated, led by Bernardo Santander, and from the corporation the architects Max Sanchez, the Infrastructure Director, and Margarita Troncoso, Head of Village Operations, joined the on-site visit.
It was an opportunity to see the evident progress in the construction of the 1.355 apartments that will host over 6.500 athletes and Para athletes that will be a part of the sports festival that will be held in October and November next year. Furthermore, there will be 320 accessible apartments considered in that total, with higher standards than the national regulations for housing units.
On the occasion, Mujica expressed his thoughts by saying that “it is extremely satisfactory to know we are working well, in accordance with what the construction companies comment. The progress developed in February and march is important. This is progress that shows and are meaningful. The work is progressing very well. We have to continue forward, because we can’t lose a single day.”
The Village and live in Games Time
The impact of this housing complex in the execution of the Games is key. Beyond the practical pointers of hosting athletes from 41 countries in the continent that will participate in the competitions at Santiago 2023, it will be a cultural, social and sports exchange location that will not be forgotten by the participants.
The head of the supervising body of the Games, Neven Ilic, explained in detail the experiences that occur when the village opens its doors: “When athletes are in the Village, there is a very special vibe that makes them proud, happy to be representing their country and give it their all to obtain a good result. So, the ambience that is lived in this location is wonderful and it is the biggest memory the athletes take with them from these kind of events.”
The Santiago 2023 XIX Pan American Games will be held from October 20th through November 5th, and the VII Parapan American Games will be held from November 17th through the 26th, gathering between both events close to 9,000 athletes from 41 countries.
