President of the Republic Gabriel Boric designates Jaime Pizarro as the new Minister of Sport

The 1991 Copa Libertadores Champion with Colo Colo joined the government Cabinet, where his main mission will be to lead the Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games.

 

In a ceremony that took place on Friday, March 10th at Palacio de La Moneda, the President of the Republic Gabriel Boric took the oath of the new Minister of Sports, Jaime Pizarro Herrera (59 years old).

The new State secretary, a Physical Education teacher, has had a successful career as a footballer, achieving the Copa Libertadores title with Colo Colo in 1991 as the team captain. He was also part of the national team.

After retiring from sports competition, Jaime, known as “el Káiser,” was the Sports Undersecretary and General Director of the National Sports Institute, and Development Director and CEO of the Culture and Sports Corporation La Araucana. He’s also worked as an academic on post-graduate courses, and sport management and development.

“Master: let’s hope that the Pan American and Parapan American Games are a continental party in which the whole Chilean country feels included and that this enthusiasm goes through every place that will serve as venue, and through the rest of the country,” that was the statement by the President to welcome the new Minister.
