AUTHORITIES OF THE VALPARAISO REGION SET UP A WORKGROUP FOR SANTIAGO 2023

THE AREA WILL BE THE MAIN LOCATION OUTSIDE THE CAPITAL, HOSTING COMPETITIONS BOTH ON THE COAST AND IN THE MOUNTAINS.

A relevant working day was held at the Valparaíso Regional Presidential Delegation building to continue advancing in the planning and coordination of the next Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games, which considers this area as the main location outside the capital with nine disciplines distributed in eight venues and six districts.

The event was headed by the presidential delegate Sofia Gonzalez, with the presence of  the Undersecretary of Sport, Antonia Illanes; the industry minister, Leandro Torres; and the executive director of the Games, Gianna Cunazza, among other authorities.

For the presidential delegate, one of the relevant aspects will be "the impact in terms of economic reactivation and tourism for the cities that are going to host these Games,” all of this, working together with the local governments.

Meanwhile, the Undersecretary of Sport highlighted that "the Valparaiso Region is going to be a large part of the Games, we are very happy to meet with the authorities, tell them what we are working on and count on them so everything goes as well as possible for the Santiago 2023 Games.”

Along the same lines, the Valparaiso Regional Ministerial Secretary of Sports, Leandro Torres, expressed that "we are beginning the work that will allow us to promote sport not only in the physiological aspect, but also as an axis of social action that enables the development of communities”.

PRESENCE ON THE COAST AND MOUNTAINS

The executive director of Santiago 2023, Gianna Cunazza, highlighted the decentralization approach that the Games will have. "We as a team permanently go out to the regions, we are attending weekly here, O'Higgins and Biobio, because we take very seriously that these Games are not only for Santiago, but for all of Chile," she emphasized.

The Pan American Games will take place in the coastal and mountain range sectors of the region. Women's and men's soccer will be present in emblematic venues such as the "Elías Figueroa" stadium in Valparaíso and “Sausalito” in Viña del Mar, cities that will also house water polo, handball and triathlon. In addition, Algarrobo will host sailing.

Inland, Quillota and its traditional Escuela de Equitacion Regimiento Granaderos will have the three equestrian specialties: dressage, complete event and jumping. Meanwhile, on the border of the districts of Los Andes and San Esteban, the Aconcagua River will receive slalom canoeing.

The mega sports event will bring together 7,000 conventional athletes and 2,000 Para athletes from 41 and 33 countries, respectively, between October and November of next year. In addition to the Metropolitan and Valparaíso regions, there will also be action in O'Higgins and Biobio.
