INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES: THIS IS HOW ARCHERY ATHLETES PREPARE FOR SANTIAGO 2023

ON DECEMBER 3, THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE UNITED NATIONS (UN) ENHANCES THIS DAY THAT SEEKS TO PROMOTE INCLUSION JUST AS THE PARAPAN AMERICAN GAMES INTEND TO DO, AN EVENT THAT WILL SEEK TO TRANSCEND AND LEAVE A LEGACY FOR THE COUNTRY IN PARALYMPIC SPORTS.

Friday, December 2 - There is less than a year left for the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games, an event that brings together the best exponents of Paralympic sport. That is why on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities we talked about the preparation for this mega-event with two Para archery athletes who will be in the most important multi-sport event in America. This was what they told us.

Diego Quesada - Costa Rican Para goalkeeper

How do you feel less than a year left for Santiago 2023?

We are making every effort to qualify for Santiago 2023. I am hopeful that things will turn out well and that we will be present next year in this beautiful country.

What is your goal for these Games?

At the level of the Americas I am well positioned and then, why not, fight for the gold medal in the Parapan American Games, which is what every athlete has as a goal. You’ve got to have a good time and enjoy a lot.

What do you like the most about your sport and what is the most difficult?

This sport is very peculiar. When you're already on the shooting line, your heart always tends to race, nerves arrive and, as it's a very precise sport, things get quite complicated. For the rest, it is a beautiful sport, which requires having a lot of control for things to turn out in the best way.

What would you tell people to attend archery at Santiago 2023?

The experience we have had in this country has been very good. The people have been very warm, the food and all the things they have given us here have been of excellent quality and I invite you all to be present next year and feel at home.

Daniela Campos - Peruvian Para Archer

How do you feel less than a year left for Santiago 2023?

I think there are many emotions at the same time. In my head now I am calm, happy because I know that at least two of us already have the quota in our categories and the only thing left for us is to continue learning much more, train and go with everything to Santiago 2023

What is your goal for these Games?

My goal is to increase my score. Little by little, I’ve been achieving this in the Nationals in Peru and now here, But above all, I want to continue learning and possibly bring a medal to my country.

What do you like the most about your sport and what is the most difficult?

What I like most about archery is that I feel like I can do it. I tried other sports and due to my disability it was not possible for me to perform at my best, and in this one I did. They explained many things to me about qualifying. I feel capable of doing it, very focused and excited.

What would you tell people to attend archery at Santiago 2023?

I invite people to get to know this sport, it's wonderful and lasts many days. It is one of the sports that athletes have been concentrating on for a long time, it is something fun and requires a lot of patience. I encourage you to keep an eye on Santiago 2023.
