Brazil was crowned South American U-20 champion and sealed its qualification to Santiago 2023

After defeating Uruguay 2-0, the ‘Scratch’ is once again the South American Champion of the category. Alongside, Uruguay and Colombia also got tickets for the Pan American Games thanks to their awesome performance in the final hexagonal.

Last Monday, February 13th, finished the final hexagonal of the South American U-20 Championship played in Colombia, where Brazil was crowned as champion after defeating Uruguay 2-0. It’s the twelfth time that Brazil has won this competition.

The tournament gave three quotas for the Pan American Games, so along with the ‘Scratch’, Uruguay and Colombia ensured their qualification to Santiago 2023 after being second and third place in the position board. The Pan American competition will allow the participation of U-23 football players.

Brazil can say that it had in its ranks the best player of the tournament. The captain of the ‘Verde-amarela’ youth, Andrey Santos - a star recently hired by the English club Chelsea - was the main figure during the tournament, tying at the top of the scoring board with his compatriot Vitor Roque, both with 6 goals.

In addition to the Pan American Games, Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia and Ecuador qualified directly to the XXIII U-20 World Cup Indonesia 2023.

This way, the male football board of the Pan American Games was confirmed as follows:

  • Chile: as host of the event

  • Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia: CONMEBOL

  • United States, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Mexico: CONCACAF
