Cruz del Sur from Puerto Montt is the new wheelchair basketball champion

The National League developed its final phase in Los Ángeles. Also, Los Leones de Lo Espejo and AB Temuco upgraded.

The Cruz del Sur team from Puerto Montt was crowned national wheelchair basketball after winning in the final phase of the First Division Tournament, played in the Gimnasio Polideportivo de Los Ángeles, Bío-Bío Region.

The southerners won in the semifinals by 50-29 to Dominicos from Santiago and they won by 60-33 to Lobos del Bosque, also from the capital, who have been the defending champion since 2018. Since that year there was no competition due to the social protests and the pandemic.

Among the winners, Cristian Muñoz was chosen the Best Player of the tournament and Ángel Hernández the Top Scorer of the tournament with 155 points. In the same category and competing for the third place, Dominicos defeated Alpos 38-29.

LOS LEONES AND AB TEMUCO WERE UPGRADED TO NEW CATEGORIES

In the Second Division, Los Leones de Lo Espejo won the first place after defeating AB Temuco, 29-21, in the final. Both teams were upgraded to the Honor Division after winning in their respectives semifinal duels.

The 2022 National Wheelchair Basketball League started last June with eight teams in the First Division and nine in the Second one. During seven months 13 dates were played in the following cities: Valparaíso, Santiago, Curicó, Concepción, Los Ángeles, Temuco, Valdivia and Puerto Montt.

The final phase of the League was organized by the Chilean Paralympic Basketball Federation and the Chilean Paralympic Committee. It was sponsored by the Bío-Bío Regional Government.
