In Lo Espejo was carried out the official launch of this initiative that connects sports and society through arts.

The Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games are getting closer and closer and in the capital and regions people are experiencing what would be the most important multisport event of the continent through diverse activities.

One of these activities is the “Neighborhood Murals” program that will color a wall from each of the 21 districts that will host the sports disciplines. This program is based on discussions with the neighbors, who are also protagonists of the final work done by a local artist.

The official launch was this Thursday (January 26th) in Lo Espejo, where the work of the muralist Alejandro Vásquez allowed to revitalize the space next to the railway. “It’s essential that we don’t stay only in sports, but also that we can involve the community. Sports and arts excite people and that can be expressed through this kind of murals”, stated Javiera Reyes, mayor of the district.

The Chief Executive Officer of Santiago 2023, Gianna Cunazza, added that this activity “unifies us with the community to find, as our slogan says, ‘Our Meeting Point’ with children and neighbors, which confirms our engagement with the community and sports democratization.”

In addition, the President of the Chilean Olympic Committee, Miguel Ángel Mujica, indicated with a little more than eight months to go before the continental event, that “the tingling has started, we are calm but alert, and the fact that these kind of things are happening, such as the inauguration of these murals, give life to what we once said would be a great event and is becoming a reality.”

The ceremony was also attended by the Board Member of the Santiago 2023 Corporation, Caterin Bravo; the Director of Human Development of the Regional Government, Nicole Sáez and the representatives of neighborhood organizations of Lo Espejo.

This program will be replicated in all the districts that will host the Pan American and Parapan American Games, which will be held between October 20th and November 5th and will bring together more than 7,000 conventional athletes and more than 2,000 para athletes.
