The 10 countries affiliated to the Conmebol will participate in the South American U-20 in Colombia starting this week. The most important young championship from the subcontinent will provide important rewards: 4 quotas to the U-20 World Cup Indonesia and 3 for the Pan American Games, Santiago 2023.
The sport event will be held between May and June of this year and, after that, between October and November it is scheduled the continental tournament at the Estadio Sausalito located in Viña del Mar. Chile, the host of the event, has already qualified to participate. The men’s U-23 tournament developed at The Garden City will have 8 teams and will be completed with 4 teams from Concacaf.
The Chilean National Team U-20 will try to return to a World Cup after 10 years. Its quota for Santiago 2023 is assured as host (pictures from: ANFP).
THE STAGING OF FUTURE FOOTBALL STARS
This sport event, that began in 1954, has been attended by important stars such as: Elías Figueroa, Lionel Messi, Neymar, Alexis Sánchez and Edison Cavani, among others. In this opportunity, the attention will be focus on: midfielder Nicolás Paz (Argentina), central midfielder Andrey Santos and forward Víctor Roque (both players from Brazil), and goalkeeper Alexei Rojas (Colombia), among others.
In the Chilean team La Roja, meanwhile, the players that stand out are: Darío Osorio and Lucas Assadi. The team coached by Patricio Ormazábal will seek to qualify for a World Cup in Colombia for the first time after ten years. The last one was in Turkey during 2013.
CHAMPIONSHIP SISTEM
The Group Phase, which will be developed in Cali, will have 2 series of 5 teams each and the top 3 teams will qualify for the final phase. The outcome of the championship will be through a hexagonal in Bogota, in which the best 4 will participate in the World Cup and 3 of them, excluding Chile, will qualify for the Pan American Games.
Group A: Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Peru.
Group B: Ecuador, Uruguay, Venezuela, Chile and Bolivia.
