Twelve Districts from the Capital city will promote Paralympic sports on the road to Santiago 2023

An alliance between the Chilean Paralympic Committee and the Metropolitan Regional Government will make it possible to deliver spaces and instances for the promotion of these disciplines, which will be replicated in two more regions in the country.

The districts of Lo Espejo, El Bosque, Providencia, Maipú, Peñalolén, Conchalí, Ñuñoa, Estación Central, La Pintana, Renca, San Joaquín and Talagante will join in a Metropolitan Regional Government program in the countdown for the Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games.

With the participation of the governor of Santiago, Claudio Orrego, and the president of the Chilean Paralympic Committee (Copachi), Sebastián Villavicencio, among other authorities, the go-ahead was given for the plan that aims to generate a social impact about paralympic sports, an initiative that will be replicated in the regions of Arica and Parinacota, and O’Higgins.

The maximum authority of Copachi explained that it is about “having several national tournaments in the districts, while also having conversations to share with students from special schools and the organization of sports festivals with the showcase of several disciplines and expositions from the multisport museum. Lastly, the plan also includes a training program, aiming to develop paralympic sports in the best possible way.”

On his part, governor Claudio Orrego highlighted the importance of the Parapan American Games on promoting inclusion in the city, ensuring that “as Metropolitan Government we have decided to bet on making this a huge festival for the city, not only including all districts, but also all ages and people with all kinds of conditions.”

On the same topic, the maximum authority for the Metropolitan Region added that “the Parapan American Games will be a huge opportunity to generate a more inclusive society. We need to have streets. We need to have jobs, offices, that include everyone without considering the different conditions we may have.”

The Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games will be held from November 17th to the 26th and all competitions will be hosted in its entirety in the Metropolitan Region. Over 2 thousand Para athletes will aim to win a medal in 18 Para disciplines: swimming, athletics, powerlifting, judo, taekwondo, track cycling, archery, road cycling, shooting para sports, badminton, table tennis, rugby, basketball and wheelchair tennis, CP football, blind football, goalball and boccia.
