Thursday, December 29th, 2022.- Ñuñoa, La Pintana, Los Andes, San Pedro de la Paz, Valparaíso, and Pichilemu. Those were the districts where the Santiago 2023 Education Program pilots were implemented, in which teachers were trained and, subsequently, students from each establishment, who enjoyed different activities around sports.
The aim of this initial phase is to improve the implementation of that strategy so that in 2023 teachers don’t have problems reaching the final goal. During the different implementations, students had various sports activities as the main pedagogical tool, as well as theoretical classes as an induction to the Games.
Among the different sports that boys and girls could experience in the pilots were modern pentathlon, in the case of Colegio Juan Moya Morales in Ñuñoa; rugby 7 with the collaboration of the Club Trapiales at Liceo Víctor Jara in La Pintana; and gymnastics and basketball 3x3 in Pichilemu.
Not only the students enjoyed the activities but also teachers and principals from the establishments valued these moments.
Here are their opinions:
“We think is wonderful that they can come to visit us and that we can be part of this mega sports event. Besides, we, the teachers, can also learn and help our students. Sports is something essential for boys and girls since it helps them in aspects like emotional, social, and physical development.”
Mariela San Martín, teacher at Escuela Miguel José Zañartu, San Pedro de la Paz.
“It is very important for our students to have this approach. We are beyond proud and happy for our teachers who were interested in the program. It was very intriguing, going from the emotional to the educational.”
Bernardita Santis, Principal of Liceo María Luisa Bombal, Valparaíso.
“Students enjoyed showing off their school, they went home very happy. We hope that in the future our students can participate and demonstrate the disciplines, experiencing a competition.”
Carlos Torres, teacher at Liceo República de Argentina, Los Andes.
In this way, the Education Program is right on track to be fully implemented in 2023.
