The "Road to Santiago" program is an initiative promoted by the International Paralympic Committee and implemented by the Parapan American Planning and Integration (PPI) area of the Santiago 2023 Corporation and aims to train different actors of the Paralympic world for the most important multi-sport event in the Americas.
Human resources is one of the most relevant intangible legacies of the Games and, on this occasion, the program benefited eight technical officials from different regions of the country with scholarships for the World Para Athletics certification course, that takes place these days in Santiago.
The student Pierre Richard Medor, from Valdivia, explained that his objective in taking this training course is to "demonstrate that Paralympic sport is a way of making it clear that what seems impossible for a person with an impairment is actually possible."
While Nayareth Diaz, from Osorno, affirmed that "I was motivated to come to this training by the love for athletics and the opportunity to experience an international competition."
And Andrea Olivares, from the Valparaiso Region, explained that "I like the idea of supporting athletes in their respective areas, and what better way to do it than as a judge in an event."
The course began on Friday at Universidad de Las Américas in Providencia and will last until Sunday, December 11 with practical classes during the Para Athletics National Championship. Among the students, there are judges from the Arica and Parinacota, Valparaíso, Maule, Biobío, Araucanía, Los Ríos and Los Lagos regions.
