Pan American and Parapan American Village is making steady progress with more than 50% of the construction finished

The construction site was visited by two out of the 1,355 families who will be the final beneficiaries of the complex being built in Cerrillos.

The infrastructure facilities needed to host the Pan American and Parapan American Games Santiago 2023 are making significant progress. One of the most important venues is the Athletes Village, where more than half of the 9,000 athletes and para athletes that will arrive from 41 countries of the continent will stay.

According to data provided by Minvu, the construction in progress in two lots have a real advance of more than 50%, with the structural work being practically finished.  Lot B, adjacent to Avenida Departamental and in charge of the construction company DLP, has actual progress of 50.97% and 98.8% in the structural work; while Lot C, in charge of Mena y Ovalle, has a register of 58.5% and 99.06% respectively.

The Minister of Housing and Urbanism, Carlos Montes; Minister of Sports, Alexandra Benado; the Deputy Secretary, Antonia Illanes; and the head of Serviu Metropolitano, Juana Nazal, along with two out of the 1,355 families who will be the final beneficiaries of the households through subsidies from Minvu visited the area with the aim to inspect the progress of the construction.

The head of this group, Carlos Montes, stated that “we are happy to see that this stage is completed and now is time for the interior finishing touches. That means this will be ready for the Pan American Games and let there be no doubt whatsoever: this is going to be ready.”

Moreover, Minister of Sport, Alexandra Benado, appreciated the inter-ministerial work and the final aim of the housing projects. “It is essential that we make progress, the constructions are going well, not only those of the Village but also the ones in Estadio Nacional and others related. This is part of Santiago 2023 legacy that, indeed, once the athletes use the Village, the Games take place, and they leave, lots of families will be able to come and live in these buildings with a high quality of life,” she said.

The Pan American and Parapan American Village project consists of 17 towers, green areas, children’s playgrounds, sports equipment, commercial spaces, and a pedestrian walkway on 6.4 hectares, thanks to public and private investment of more than 100 million dollars. During Santiago 2023 Games, this will be the operational base for the delegations and will be connected to the main competition venues through Metro (line 6, Cerrillos station) and special lanes on the streets.
