December 5th, 2022: The Santiago 2023 Education Program continues to make steady progress. Pichilemu joined the districts of Ñuñoa and La Pintana to carry out a new pilot in the host areas of the Games. The students were educated about the upcoming Pan American and Parapan American Games through gymnastics and basketball 3x3.
The day started with an introductory module on what will be the most important multisport event on the continent, reviewing aspects such as the relevance of the Games for the country, the legacy that such a valuable event will leave, and sport as a mean to develop a better quality of life.
This activity reinforces the concept of legacy that Santiago 2023 pretends to leave. In this case, the Pichilemino School is one of the establishments in the area where children at social risk attend, therefore, in the words of the teachers, these kinds of activities help the students to develop habits like teamwork, respect, and empathy towards others.
In this regard, the Physical Education teacher who led the activity, José Patricio Reyes, said that “being able to see the organization of Santiago 2023 up close, here in Pichilemu, is really motivating for our students, as this allows them to get closer to sports and experience it in more depth.”
On another note, teacher Cecilia Lizana stressed that “sports help in many aspects, for example, in creating consistency in students so that they not only see sports as something related to health but also as a tool to enforce discipline, perseverance, and be the best at something. We have seen many students with behavioral problems obtain benefits from sports.”
That was the end of the third out of six pilots that will be implemented by the end of the year. All this with the purpose of leaving a legacy that last over time once the Games are over.
