How are the Chilean athletes and para athletes preparing one year away from Santiago 2023?

There is only one year left to live the emotions of Santiago 2023 and the athletes are preparing to reach glory at the most important sport event that Chile has had in its history. That is why we wanted to ask four Pan American and two Parapan American athletes, how has their preparation been 365 days away from this important event. These were their answers.

Paulina Concha, boccia: The national player came after competing at Cali 2022, World Boccia Challenger and now her main focus is Santiago 2023. “My preparation, one year away from Santiago 2023, started much before. It's daily, if not in the stadium or training center, in my house. Now in December I’ll be going to the World Boccia Championship in Brazil and after that, at the beginning of 2023, I’ll train, train and train. The important thing is for us to arrive as prepared as possible at the Parapan American Games.”

Matías Uribe, freestyle wrestling: He just won a bronze medal at the Asunción 2022 South American Games and he is coming for more. The wrestler that competed in the 97 kilograms category, follows a strict training routine while thinking about the Pan American Games: “We have had a lot of camps during the year, and the next one we have more. We also have different championships, the idea is to reach a good level for the Pan American Games.”

The CP football chilean team, captained by Patricio Saavedra, wants to keep making history and only think of the gold at Santiago 2023. “Each one in their club is preparing for national competitions, apart from the selection training. Personally, I’m preparing to the fullest, going to the CEO and training weekly with teachers and my teammates.”

Martina Well, who runs the 400 m and the relay of 4x400 m, wanted more and confused her desire to get the gold, apart from telling how she is preparing to achieve it, one year away from the huge event in Chile: “I’m thinking about taking a break after the South American Games to be able to recharge my batteries and doing a good basic, a bit of an indoor season to loosen up my legs and get “quicker.” The idea is to have everything planned and arriving in the best possible way.”
