On the countdown for the Pan American and Parapan American Games, the Community Outreach area (COR) has made different activities and work tables with neighbors of different areas, highlighting the participation of local actors linked to the venues where the Santiago 2023 competitions will take place.
In this way, we got to hear the testimony of the protagonists themselves, who stood out for the commitment of the neighbors boards, regional organizations, communities and municipalities, contributing to the rationing and responsibility that Santiago 2023 has with the community.
One of the locations present at Santiago 2023 will be de Los Andes district, where the president of the “El Sauce” neighbors board highlighted the relationship with their area, mentioning the importance that the Games will have for the local development: “It took me by surprise that El Sauce, a locality in Los Andes, was included for the Santiago 2023 Games. For the local businesses it will be a fundamental contribution. The people will be happy with the initiative and the sport that we will be able to see. It is a huge decision having included this place inside of the realization of sport practices.”
In Santiago, Pudahuel will also have a protagonic participation in the development of the Games, not only for being the host district for sport shooting and para sport shooting, but also because the athletes and para athletes that will participate at this Games will arrive here at the Aeropuerto Internacional Arturo Merino Benítez, the neuralgic point during Games time.
Juan Maza, neighbor of the district, mentioned the importance that this has for the community, saying that “the purpose of Santiago 2023 is huge. This can help and contribute to Pudahuel so the athletes from the whole continent can arrive here. This is an enhancement for the district. The children need to be motivated to activate the different sport disciplines.”
The community outreach area wants to contribute to the sustainability of the territory, getting the games closer to every local actor, promoting a conversation and relationship with the communities under the social role that sport has, promoting the activities that encourage physical activity, sport and sustainability.
Between the communities that stand out on this relationship the participants from La Pintana, Lo Espejo, Peñalolén, Cerrillos, Pichilemu Quillota and Los Andes, between others, can be highlighted having already an impact of 1,300 people approximately, between sport, cultural, social and entrepreneur organizations, where the Games are introduced in an open way, bringing the community and its agents closer through conversatories.
Additionally, in this initiative with the districts there are also actors in the matter of education, highlighting alliances and agreements with different entities like universities and municipalities, which will allow to reach an important number of people that will be able to get to know and contribute to the execution on the most important multisport event in the history of Chile.
