Saturday, November 25th, 2023.- On the penultimate day of Santiago 2023, Colombia added eight new medals (2 gold), definitively surpassing Mexico in the final standings and finishing third, one position higher than in Lima 2019.
On Saturday, the Colombian team secured a silver medal in wheelchair basketball, another silver in boccia (pairs), a silver in blind football, and five medals in athletics: Two golds (Karen Palomeque in long jump T36/37/38 and the universal relay 4X100), one silver (Ionis Salcedo in the 400 meters T11), and two bronzes (Yesenia Restrepo in shot put F12 and Giovanni Malambo in 200 meters T37).
Undoubtedly, the standout Colombian athlete was para-athlete Karen Palomeque, who accumulated five gold medals (100 and 200 meters T37, 400 meters T38, long jump T36/37/38, and the universal relay 4x100), making a significant contribution to Colombia's total of 46 gold medals so far (one less than in Lima 2019).
On the final day of Santiago 2023, Colombia could add five more medals, a bronze in male's singles WH1 (Víctor Aragón) in para-badminton, while in para road cycling, there are four chances for medals with representatives in Class B (1 male); T 1-2 (1 male); C 4-5 (1 female and 2 male); C 1-3 (1 female and 2 male).
