Para Track Cycling: Colombia Wins Gold and Silver

Edwin Matiz won the male's C1-5 individual 1,000-meter pursuit, setting a new Pan American record. Carlos Vargas finished second, and the Canadian Alexandre Hayward took the bronze.

Thursday, November 23rd, 2023.- Colombia confirmed its outstanding performance by securing gold and silver in the second Para track cycling competition at Santiago 2023 held at the Velódromo de Peñalolén. 

In the male's individual 1,000-meter pursuit, Edwin Matiz emerged victorious with a time of 1:04.388, setting a new Parapan American record in the C5 class. Carlos Vargas finished second with 1:06.538, and the Canadian Alexandre Hayward took the third spot with 1:06.566. 

Two Chilean cyclists participated in the event, with Hernán Moya finishing sixth and Enzo Monichi twelfth. 

In the first competition of the day, the female's C1-5 individual 500m pursuit, Brazilian Sabrina Custodia da Silva claimed victory, followed by Canadian Melissa Pemble-Chubb and Colombian Paula Ossa.
