Wheelchair Rugby: Brazil, Colombia Are Already Semifinalists

Colombia and Brazil placed third and fourth, respectively, after the end of the qualifying round, which will be held until next Thursday at the Collective Sports Center, at the Estadio Nacional.

Tuesday, November 21st, 2023.- After an intense day, Colombia and Brazil headed for the wheelchair rugby semifinals after the end of the qualifying round at the Centro de Deportes Colectivos at the Estadio Nacional.

In a close match, the Colombians overcame Argentina 56-50 (15-11; 12-11; 15-13 and 14-15). Then, Brazil did the same against Chile, with a comfortable 66-28 (partials 13-10; 19-7; 15-7 and 19-4).
Thus, both teams will face the semifinals against the United States and Canada, respectively, on the penultimate day of the competition.

Tomorrow, at 3 p.m., the fifth day will begin with the semifinals: United States-Colombia. At 5 p.m., Canada-Brazil will follow. The day will close with the duel for fifth place between Chile and Argentina, at 7 p.m.

Wheelchair rugby was born in 1977, in Ontario (Canada), arrived in 1981 to the United States; in 2005 to Argentina; in 2007 to Colombia and Brazil; in 2012 to Chile, Uruguay, Peru and Ecuador.

In Santiago 2023, the discipline will provide quotas for Paris 2024.
