Wheelchair Tennis: American Mathewson Confirms His Favoritism

Dana Mathewson, ranked 7th in the world, defeated Ecuadorian Alexandra Meza 6-1 and 6-1, advancing to the semifinals where she will face Argentine María Florencia Moreno. In two matches, the North American has only lost five games.

Tuesday, November 21st, 2023.- The American Dana Mathewson, ranked 7th in the world and the top seed of the tournament, confirmed her favoritism by smoothly advancing to the semifinals of the female's wheelchair tennis competition at Santiago 2023. 

At the Centro del Tenis of Estadio Nacional, Mathewson defeated Ecuadorian Alexandra Meza 6-1 and 6-1 in an hour and a minute of play. In her debut, she had defeated Brazilian Meirycoll Duval 6-2, 6-1, so she has only lost five games in two matches. 

Her next opponent in the semifinals will be Argentine María Florencia Moreno, who defeated Colombian Johana Martínez. 

The winner between Mathewson and Moreno will compete for the gold against the winner of the other semifinal, which will be contested by Chile's Macarena Cabrillana and Colombia's Angélica Bernal.
