Alexander Cataldo Advances to the Quarterfinals in the Tennis Open

The Chilean defeated Colombian Manuel Sánchez in consecutive sets and remains strong at Santiago 2023.

Tuesday, November 21st, 2023.- One of Chile's great hopes in wheelchair tennis is Alexander Cataldo, who had a perfect debut at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games. 

The local athlete secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the Open category after defeating Colombian Manuel Sánchez. 

Cataldo had to work hard in the first set, which he won 7-6 (5), but in the second set, he found his rhythm and won it 6-1, completing the victory in one hour and four minutes of play. 

In the quarterfinals, the Chilean awaits his opponent, determined by the match taking place on Tuesday between Brazilian Gustavo Carneiro Silva and Peruvian Ysabelino Apaza. 

In the male's Open category, the top contender for the gold medal is Argentinian Gustavo Fernández, who has five Grand Slam titles in his career and has already reached the quarterfinals at Santiago 2023.
