Shooting Para Sport: Brazilian Marcelo Marton Secures Gold Medal

Representing Team Brazil, Marcelo Marton emerged as the champion in the R1/R2 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 Mixed category. He was closely followed on the podium by Peruvians Jorge Arcela and Milagros Palomino.

Monday, November 20th, 2023.- The Brazilian delegation at the 2023 Santiago Parapan American Games added another gold medal to their tally on Monday. At the Polígono de Tiro de Pudahuel, Marcelo Marton claimed the top spot in the R1/R2 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 Mixed series with a score of 240.9 after nine rounds. 

The silver medal was secured by Peruvian Jorge Arcela with a score of 239.8, while the bronze went to Peruvian Milagros Palomino with a score of 217.4. 

Earlier in the competition, Cuban Yenigladys Suárez clinched the gold in the P4-50m Air Pistol SH1 Mixed series. The silver medal was claimed by her compatriot Di Angelo Loriga, leaving Brazilian Geraldo Von Rosenthal with the bronze medal at 163.7. 

In Para Shooting, athletes use firearms or compressed air guns, including rifles or pistols, to hit a target divided into 10 concentric rings. Shooters compete from various positions (standing, sitting, and prone) and distances, which can range from 10, 25, to 50 meters. 

The events for this Monday conclude with the R5-10m Air Rifle Prone SH2 Mixed category.
