Deloitte study: the good numbers that the Pan American and Parapan American Games will bring

Adding to the sporting and social contribution of this continental mega-event, we have the creation of jobs, the rise of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and the millionaire tax collection.

The Pan American and Parapan American Games are not only about sports and healthy competition, they also represent an action of the country that has boosted the labor market and has had a positive economic impact.

According to a study from Deloitte Consulting, the realization of the Games has created 6 thousand 448 jobs, both directly and indirectly.

In addition, the Games will contribute more than 900 million dollars to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and taxes alone will collect about US$88 million.

Additionally, the Santiago 2023 Chief Executive Officer, Harold Mayne-Nicholls, explains that 1 dollar spent on the Games translates as US$ 1.18 in terms of the GDP of the national economy.

This continental event has also had a positive impact in many areas of the economy, the biggest impact being on construction, wholesale and retail market, financial and insurance services, and transport.

“The economic contribution of the Games is massive and that should motivate us to keep doing things properly and generate excitement among all Chileans”, claims Mayne-Nicholls.

This study is added to the one of Ipsos. The study highlighted that the overall image of the Games is clearly positive, as 81% of the surveyed people consider the Pan American event as favorable, and 72% think that the Games will help Chile in some way.
