Sunday, November 5th, 2023.- Mexico secured the third place in the medal standings at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, and one of the prominent representatives of the North American delegation was the diver Osmar Olvera.
The 19-year-old athlete became one of the best at the Centro de Deportes Acuáticos at Estadio Nacional, winning three gold medals.
Olvera excelled in the 1-meter springboard, the 3-meter springboard, and the synchronized 3-meter springboard, where he triumphed alongside his partner, Rodrigo Diego.
Mexico has always had a tradition in diving, with 15 Olympic medals throughout its sporting history, and now in Santiago, Olvera has emerged as their new standout.
"Mexico has a great talent pool when it comes to diving. There has been a generational shift, and we all have a lot of talent, work hard, and train rigorously to achieve our goals, which is evident in these Pan American Games," said Osmar Olvera after his victory.
Furthermore, the Mexico City native reflected on his moment. "It's a wonderful feeling. After returning from the World Championships as a runner-up, I now crown myself as a double Pan American gold medalist. That's what I worked for, trained hard, and I'm enjoying it."
Mexico left Santiago 2023 with positive impressions, accumulating a total of 142 medals, including 52 gold, 38 silver, and 52 bronze.
