1000 days before the Santiago 2023 Games

For the first time in Chile, a multisport event as big as the Pan American and Parapan American Games will be held, where we will receive more than 8 thousand athletes from 41 countries.

This Saturday, January 23, the Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games celebrate that there are 1000 days away from the execution of the largest multisport event that Chile has organized in its history.

The event that will take place between October and November 2023, will receive more than 8 thousand athletes from 41 countries, who will leave everything on the tracks, field and fields to show that they are the best in America.

Despite the fact that 2020 was a difficult year, the work of the organizing committee did not stop. One of the fundamental areas for what the future Games will be is those who work in Sports, and its General Management, led by Ximena Restrepo, ensures that last year's objectives were set to "collect primary information with the technical delegates of each sport; carry out a mapping of the athletes who will arrive in the country and adjust the technical bases of each discipline ”.

For what is coming in the face of 1000 days, the area has important challenges to receive the visits of the technical delegates, generate the trainings and see the final allocation of venues for each of the sports and disciplines of Santiago 2023, work that will be done together with the Infrastructure area.

This area has been working hard to make the competition venues of the Games a reality and has focused on planning the renovations that some centers of the National Stadium Sports Park will have, such as Sports Center (Polideportivo) 1, the Mario Recordon athletic track and Aquatic Center and the great Santiago 2023 project: the Pan American and Parapan American Village.

This legacy of the Games will be located in the district of Cerrillos and once the event is over, the buildings will be handed over to the district with the goal of turning them into social housing. Today, the Village is awaiting the results of the tender award and works should begin at the end of the first half of this year.

The executive director of Santiago 2023, Felipe De Pablo, highlights the progress that the Corporation has made in terms of organization and states that one of his great wishes for this great event is that the Pan American and Parapan American Games “reach every corner of Chile and to all Chileans, so that we are all part of this sporting milestone for the 1000 days”.

Undoubtedly, there is much work to be done, but the organizing committee is making steady progress to fulfill the dream of the first Pan American and Parapan American Games in Chile.
