Santiago 2023 strengthens its relationship with the community of Cerrillos

Better flooring, more colorful and the installation of new goals and backboards were part of the renovations that were made to the Víctor Jara court by Santiago 2023. In addition, soccer and basketball balls were delivered to the community in the sector.

The mayor of the Cerrillos district, Arturo Aguirre; the president of the Neighborhood Council of the Villa Real sector, Isabel Jofré; the executive director of the Santiago 2023 Corporation, Felipe De Pablo and the Sports Area Manager, Xime Restrepo arrived at the Victor Jara Human Rights Square.

There, the second remodeled court was delivered to the district, which consisted of the renovation of goals and basketball backboards, an improvement of the floor and paint, and the demarcation of the court with the identifying colors of Santiago 2023.

In conjunction with the delivery of the Plaza Buzeta court, held on Monday in a ceremony headed by the Minister of Sports, Cecilia Pérez, these spaces aim for the community of Cerrillos -community that will receive the Pan American and Parapan American Village- can do sports activities outdoors and can feel part of the next Games.

“The Games belong to everyone and that is what we are celebrating today. To be able to deliver this multi-court and share with the neighbors is to share what the Games are ”, assured the CEO of Santiago 2023, Felipe De Pablo. "The community is a key actor in the development of Santiago 2023," he added.

For his part, the mayor of the commune, Arturo Aguirre highlighted the consideration of Santiago 2023 with the community of Cerillos and seeks that they be "relevant actors to welcome and be together with the 8 thousand athletes who will come at the end of October 2023 ”.

The multi-courts will be a contribution to the community of the sector and this is assured by the president of the “Villa Real” Neighborhood Council, Isabel Jofré, who thanked the Santiago 2023 initiative. "As Cerrillanos, we are proud that this is happening in our community and it encourages us to continue improving."

With the delivery of this multi-court and that of Plaza Buzeta, Cerrillos begins to be part of what will be the next Pan American and Parapan American Games in Santiago 2023, an event where community participation will be key.
