Wednesday, November 1st.- Honduras defeated the Dominican Republic 3-1 in Viña del Mar and concluded their participation in the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games in seventh place.
In a game dominated by the Central Americans, Jeffry Miranda took advantage of a defensive lapse to open the scoring at the 11th minute, but the Antilleans equalized with a rebound from Alex Ciriaco. Honduras regained the lead with a well-placed header by Daniel Carter, taking the advantage into halftime.
In the second half, the alternating dominance continued, but in the closing moments, the Central Americans found inspiration with three strong attacks. The final one allowed David Ochoa to score with a low shot.
"We came with the desire to get at least three points in the tournament. The results we wanted didn't materialize, but we're happy with what we did in the last game. Each one of us gave our best, and we're not leaving feeling sad for not giving 100 percent. We leave with our heads held high for the future; many of us are under 20 years old and want to keep learning," said the Honduran David Ochoa.
With this victory, the picture of the final placings in male's football at Santiago 2023 is complete. Uruguay finished fifth after defeating Colombia in a penalty shootout, and Honduras secured the seventh position with their sole victory in the competition, while the Antilleans could only manage to earn one point against Mexico (0-0) in the preliminary phase.
