Tuesday, October 31th, 2023.- Chile overcame Puerto Rico in an exciting 3-1 match at Arena Parque O'Higgins, securing the second place in the male's volleyball Group B and, at the same time, their qualification for the quarter-finals.
In a highly contested encounter, Puerto Rico took the first set with a score of 28-26. However, from the second set onwards, the Chilean team improved their game, displayed more solidity at the net, and with strong spikes, they managed to win the set 28-18.
The last two sets were closely fought, but Chile managed to establish the difference and closed the match with scores of 25-21 and 25-23, reaching eight points in Group B, where they are surpassed by Argentina with nine points.
After the match, Tomás Gago said, "I'm left with the feelings at the end where we had six opportunities to close the set, and where nerves got the better of us, but we managed to overcome it."
Chile's next opponent will be Argentina, with the match scheduled for Wednesday, November 1, at 8:30 p.m. local time.
Looking ahead to that match, Gago stated, "We know it would be great to finish first. It would give us a day off, and we could play against a second or third-place team. Tomorrow, nothing is lost, and we will prepare for the match against Argentina."
