Monday, october 23nd, 2023.- The pair consisting of Marco and Esteban Grimalt is one of Team Chile's great hopes for a medal at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, and once again, they showcased their strength in male beach volleyball.
The current Pan American champions advanced to the quarterfinals on Monday, as they remained undefeated in Group A at the tournament held in Parque Peñalolén.
The Chilean cousins played a tight match against the Mexican team composed of Miguel Ángel Sarabia and Juan Ramón Virgen, defeating them with scores of 21-17 and 21-16 in a 38-minute match.
Marco and Esteban Grimalt dominated their group by winning all three of their matches, securing their place in the round of eight, where they are still awaiting confirmation of their opponents.
In another notable match of the day in Peñalolén, Cubans Jorge Alayo and Noslen Díaz caused a major upset by defeating the Brazilians André Loyola and George Souto with scores of 21-16, 18-21, and 15-8 in a game from Group C.
In that group, the Cuban duo, Díaz and Alayo, advanced to the quarterfinals, while André and George will continue competing in the round of 16.
