In the context of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, our Santiago 2023 Corporation, chaired by the Sports Minister Cecilia Pérez, presented the organization’s works progress updates for the Pan American and Parapan American Games in the Japanese capital city. “Day in and out this project grows and takes shape, which allows us to feel today, two years from the Games, that they are already real”, she mentioned.
Considering the Covid-19 Pandemic context, it has been a constant challenge to carry out the plan set out by the organization, with no setbacks and adapting to the changes in the country, due to the different conditions in the sanitary, social and economic factors. However, athletes and the Santiago 2023 Corporation have had an active role in the different campaigns that have been executed between different actors of the public and private sectors, being spokespeople of a message that talks about the country’s recovery with the collaboration of everyone.
In the words of the President Sebastián Piñera “the works and construction of the venues and clusters that will host the Games, are a way to recover and activate our economy. Hence, I have integrated the Ministry of Sports to the Paso a Paso economy plan (Step-by-Step), through the thousands of jobs that are being created and that will be created from the execution of said sports works”.
Along that line, the progress of the Pan American and Parapan American Village was also mentioned, which will receive thousands of Athletes, with its location in the Bicentennial Park City, in the Cerrillos district.
On this occasion, the president of the Chilean Olympic Committee and Vice-president of the Santiago 2023 Corporation, Miguel Ángel Mujica, pointed out that “this progress has born fruitful results that allows us to present today the preparation for this great multi-sports event. This would not be possible without the support of the Government of Chile, and the commitment of President Sebastián Piñera.
Along with receiving the updates in relation to the planning and infrastructure, the Committee of Panam Sports, chaired by Neven Ilic, was able to know the development and positioning that the Santiago 2023 brand is building among the community and with its commercial partners.
Felipe de Pablo, CEO of the Corporation, also addressed the Committee: “We have been able to progress according to the plan and goals set out from the last Committee, and the different technical meetings done with members of Panam Sports”.
With this, the Corporation starts a new cycle on its Planning and continues to work to receive thousands of athletes from all the Americas, in October 2023.
