Let’s get to know a bit more about Climbing, one of the debuting sports in Santiago 2023

Climbing has had a large growth in our country and around the world, gathering followers due to the speed and dexterity required to practice this sport, and the excitement that the spectators feel when watching it. It was recently included in the sports program of the Olympic Games and will make its Pan American debut in Santiago 2023. We invite you to know more about this sport.

In the Pan American Games, athletes will participate in the following events: Speer, Boulder and Lead.
 

Speed

Athletes compete in identical routes with the objective to reach the top of a 15-meter wall high as fast as possible. An event you wouldn’t want to miss and where you can root for your favourite athletes.

Boulder

An event filled with excitement. This competition is developed in a structure 4.5-meters high, which has a totally unknown distribution for the athletes, who are only able to see and analyse it minutes before the competition.  
The objective is to complete (solve) the largest quantity of boulders in the least tries in a set period of time.  Each athlete may perform unlimited tries within its assigned climbing time.
Thus, the athlete that completes the most quantity of boulders in the least tries and within the established time, is declared the winner.  

Lead

Athletes compete in a 15-meter structure that has an unknown holds distribution for the athletes, who are only able to see and analyse it minutes before the competition. The way to follow the competition is simple, since the athlete that reaches the best height in a single try, is declared the winner.
