Para Archery has a long-standing history in the Paralympic Movement, being a part of every Games since Rome 1960.
Its practice consists in using a bow to shoot arrows to a target, and it requires precision, control, focus and repetition. Archers shoot arrows from distances of 50m or 70m – using a recurve or compound bow – trying to shoot as close to the centre of the target as possible.
Athletes shoot their arrows with two types of bows: recurve bows, very distinguishable since its ends curve towards the outside in the upper part; and compound bows, which have mechanical pulleys, telescopic sights and releasing aides to help with precision. 1
