Saturday, Oct 21st.- The evening session of the opening day of water skiing at Santiago 2023 was dedicated to the wakeboarding qualifications. In this discipline, athletes glide on the water on a board while being towed by a rope attached to a boat or a jet ski.
There were two qualifying series for women and two for men at the Laguna Los Morros venue, located in the southern part of Santiago.
In the female's division, the first series saw American Mary Morgan Howell (81.67) and Brazilian Mariana Nep Ribeiro Osmak (63.33) securing their spots in the final. In the second series, Argentine Eugenia de Armas (85.00) and Chilean Ignacia Holscher (73.33) also earned their places in the final.
In the male's division, the top performers in the initial series were Argentinian Kai Ditsch (81.67) and American Daniel Johnson (77.17). In the second series, Mexican Pablo Monroy (78.33) and Canadian Hunter Smith (70.22) advanced to the final.
Repechage rounds will take place in both categories on Sunday afternoon, determining two more qualifiers for women and two more for men.
Each wakeboarding final will consist of six competitors. The female's final is scheduled for Monday, October 23rd, and the male's final will follow the next day.
