The National Championship of Sport Climbing, organized by Corporación Santiago 2023 and sponsored by the Federación de Andinismo de Chile, will conclude this Sunday with the finals of the combined bouldering and lead event. This championship has served as a test event for the Pan American Games 2023.

The competition began on Friday with the speed tests, officially inaugurating the brand-new facility at Parque Cerrillos. The park received only positive feedback from the athletes.

In fact, some athletes who have had the opportunity to train or compete on European walls were surprised by the similarities in terms of infrastructure.

In the female's speed event, the gold medal went to the top favorite, Anahi Riveros, who defeated Fiona Forsterra in the final, while Martina Morales claimed the bronze.

In the male's category, the champion was Joaquín Tapia, followed by Ángel Garrido in second place, and Jesús Morales in third.

On Saturday, it was the turn for the qualification rounds of the combined bouldering and lead competition, where the top eight men and women competed to advance to Sunday's final.

This Sunday morning, the female athletes competing are Adriana Pineda, Beatriz Rosas, Ignacia Mellado, Maya Vásquez, Millaray González, Martina Castro, Muykyay Silva, and Matilde Cabezas. The latter is considered the top favorite to win the gold.

And in the afternoon, the male’s final will take place, featuring Benjamín Vargas, Joaquín Urrutia, Christian Wagner, Dante Caballero, León Pino, Emiliano Torrijo, Benjamín Ayala, and Joaquín Squella. The ones who qualified with the best times were Vargas and Urrutia.

After the award ceremony, the authorities will be able to evaluate in view of the debut of Sport Climbing in the Pan American Games, whose events will take place from October 21 to 24.
