Chile stands out in Santiago 2023 progress presentation in the new general assembly of Panam Sports performed in Colombia

The Sports Minister Cecilia Pérez led the last annual Santiago 2023 progress presentation before the Executive Committee of Panam Sports, event where the main Latin American sports authorities approved with great praise the progress status of the Pan American and Parapan American Games to be held in Chile.

“The commitment of the Government of President Sebastián Piñera with the execution of this great event is complete and we are very satisfied with the progress we have been doing towards each of the objectives plotted to hold a sports party that will be remembered as one of the best in history”, said the Sports Minister and President of the Santiago 2023 Corporation, Cecilia Pérez.  

“I am so proud with the presentation done by Chile, and the excellent reception it had.  We are very thankful for the effort done to plan and execute the next edition of the 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games”, added the president of Panam Sports, Neven Illic.  

The Intercontinental Hotel in Cali was the location that hosted the development of the meeting that anticipates the next Pan American event, and where the Minister Cecilia Pérez detailed the step-by-step of the Santiago 2023 Corporation composition, as well as the infrastructure works progress that are currently under construction, facing the most important sports event in the Americas and that will receive over 7.000 athletes from all over the continent.

“Chile is ready to live an event without precedents and that will place a before and after in the country’s sports history.  We have worked tirelessly to achieve a dream that is tremendously exciting for us and that will leave an indelible legacy for our country”, said the Sports Minister, Cecilia Pérez, who was joined by the President of the Chilean Olympic Committee, Miguel Ángel Mujica; and by the Santiago 2023 Corporation’s CEO, Felipe de Pablo.

“We know that the Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games will not be just another event. The world changed and sport is called on to play an essential role in the construction of a better society. We have worked with great effort and humbly to make these Games unforgettable, not only thanks to the talent of many athletes, but also because we will have in sport a tool for unity and hope”, pointed out the President of the Chilean Olympic Committee, Miguel Ángel Muijica.  

“We are happy because we were able to present before the 41 countries that are a part of Panam Sports, the compliance with each one of the stages of the strategic plan that considers the execution of Santiago 2023, and the reception was spectacular, so we are left with a high optimism facing the future”, added the Santiago 2023 CEO, Felipe De Pablo

On the occasion, the main Sports authority in Chile presented the total investment designated by the State to execute the Games, which climbs to a total of 507 million dollars, apart from the amount considered for the construction of the Pan American and Parapan American Village located in Cerrillos, that will be build thorough a public-private funding system with a total budget of 150 million dollars.  

Likewise, Minister Pérez highlighted the historical increase of the 2022 Ministry of Sports budget determined by the Government, a fact that places the ministry as the one with the largest budget growth for the next year with a total of 345 million dollars; 125 million dollars higher in relation to 2021 (55.2% increase).

The Minister also indicated that the Mindep (Ministry of Sports) will allocate 170 million dollars for the construction of new sports venues and remodelling of existing ones, that will hold the development of 30 sports and 57 disciplines, in the Pan American case, and 17 sports and 18 disciplines in the Parapan American case.   

Lastly, the Sports Minister detailed that in the improvement works of the National Stadium Sports Park consider a total investment of 120,7 million dollars, which include the development of 9 sports infrastructure projects and the remodelling of 64 hectares of green recreational sports areas, bicycle lanes, jogging routes, exercise areas and new venues for competitive sports.  

ANNEX

New venues in National Stadium Sports Park

1. - Contact Sports Training and Competition Centre.

With an investment of 12.3 million dollars, the construction started on the first semester 2021 and will be delivered by the end of 2022. It will have a built surface with 8.000 m2, with complementary rooms for warm-up and training, athletes and judges dressing rooms, gym, among others. Its capacity will be 1.676 spectators.  Judo, Taekwondo and Karate will be held here.

2.- Field Hockey Training and Competition Centre

The total investment for this centre is 7.5 million dollars. It already has a progress of 90% in its works and will be delivered in the next months.  

The project has a total surface of 23.500 m2, of which over 20.000 m2 are destined for 2 official courts, with a cutting-edge surface and the highest qualification level certification of the Hockey International Federation.  

3.- Paralympic Training and Competition Centre

For this venue, the first and only one in its nature in our country, a total investment of 11.8 million dollars was allocated, and its delivered is scheduled for the second semester of 2022.  

It will have a total surface of 6.500 m2 with athletes and judges dressing rooms, technical rooms, gym, stands and medical areas.  All sports surfaces are designed for the practice of Paralympic sports, inside or outside.  Golbol will be held here.

4.- Urban Sports Training and Competition Centre.

It has an investment of 1.4 million dollars and will be delivered on the first semester of 2023.

The project has a total surface of 6.723 m2 and will hold the skateboarding and BMX freestyle sports. This centre considers a total capacity of 1500 spectators in Overlay structures.  Basketball 3x3, BMX Free Style and skateboard will be held here.

 

5.- Tennis and Racket Sports Training and Competition Centre.

This large project considers an investment of 18.6 million dollars and will be delivered during the first semester in 2023. The centre will have a total surface of 6.367 m2, and a total capacity of 5.020 spectators. Tennis, squash, and racquetball will be held here.

6.- Collective Sports Training and Competition Centre.

It will be delivered during the first semester in 2023, and it considers a total investment of 23.6 million dollars.

With a total surface of 12.164 m2, it includes a total capacity of 3.086 spectators.  Handball will be held here.

Venue Improvement Plan

1.- Athletics Training and Competition Centre. With a total investment of 20,8 million dollars, and its delivery programmed for the first semester 2023. This centre will hold the daily practice of athletics and para-athletics, and for the Games it will consider a total capacity of 10.000 spectators between permanent and overlay capacities.

2.- Aquatic Sports Training and Competition Centre: it considers an investment of 23.5 million dollars, and will be delivered during the first semester in 2023. It will hold all aquatic competitions and considers a total approximated surface of 9.500 m2, build and over 12.500 m2 of external areas.

3.- Santiago 2014 Poly sports Training and Competition Centre: it will be delivered during the first semester in 2023. It will hold the daily practice for Basketball and will be normalized to ensure the universal accessibility to all its grounds.  It has a total surface of 7.500 m2, and a capacity for 5.000 spectators.
