October 6th As a clear demonstration of the facilities, the first official activity will be the National Championship of Sport Climbing, starting this afternoon with the speed competitions and will continue tomorrow and on Sunday with bouldering and lead climbing disciplines.
In the inauguration ceremony were Harold Mayne-Nicholls, the Chief Executive Officer of Santiago 2023; Miguel Angel Mujica, the president of the Chilean Olympic Committee; and Alejandro Vásquez, the executive director of Antofagasta Minerals, who funded the construction of the facility through Minera Los Pelambres.
Since the bouldering and lead climbing walls must be revealed minutes before a competition begins, only the speed wall could be seen during the inauguration, which was inaugurated by climbers Anahi Riveros and Joaquín Tapia.
The Climbing Center of Parque Cerrillos has a 15 meter tall speed wall, a 15 meter tall lead climbing wall, and a 4.5 meter high by 18 meter long bouldering wall.
On the back of the latter, there is also a 4.5 meter by 12 meter warm-up wall. All of this allows it to be homologated for international competitions and meet the requirements of the International Federation of Sport Climbing.
