Sebastián Villavicencio is Copachi’s new president

The member of the board in Santiago 2023 takes office in the Chilean Paralympic Committee, in substitution of Ricardo Elizalde. “I have mixed feelings”, acknowledges the new president.

Monday, November 29th, 2021 | Sebastián Villavicencio became the new president for the Chilean Paralympic Committee (Copachi), taking office after Ricardo Elizalde.

Being also a member of the board in the Santiago 2023 Corporation, he said that he “had mixed feelings. In truth, for those of us who have been in the Paralympic movement for a long time it is extremely hard to know that Ricardo Elizalde will no longer join us, that Alberto Vargas won’t either, two people that have worked so, so hard for a really long time to develop these sports.  On the other hand, I’m very happy taking on this responsibility”.

The acting head, an accomplished wheelchair basketball athlete, also added that they “have great challenges. We are two years away from the Parapan American Games. For us, as a board, it is a huge addition. We want to continue strengthening the formative areas, high performance, with all the achievements we have got”.

Robinson Méndez, the accomplished Para athlete, also joins the board bringing a vast experience in this activity. “I’m happy to undertake the challenge and continue strengthening the great work of the outgoing office. I think that with the experience as an athlete that I bring, we have so much to offer” he mentioned.

The CEO of Santiago 2023, Felipe De Pablo, salutes our bord member on this election. “Sebastián is a huge contribution to sports and to become the president is but an award to his virtues as a leader. Ricardo left us a huge legacy and, without a doubt, Sebastián will carry on this great path”.
