The National Sports Institute (IND in Spanish) has shown great progress in the Centro de Deportes de Contacto. The progress is so remarkable that the building enclosed in the Parque Estadio Nacional today has a total progress of 85%, where the framing is 100% complete.
The IND National Director, Israel Castro, explained “we’re only missing minor finishing touches and some equipment. Then we’ll have to close the exterior areas, which reaffirms our commitment to have everything ready in September.”
During the Santiago 2023 Games, this venue will stage the conventional judo, karate, and taekwondo competitions, while for the Parapan American Games it will be the home of Para taekwondo and judo, with a capacity of 1,254 spectators.
The facility of 8,393.56 m2 will have a cryotherapy pool (use of extreme cold to treat injuries), 14 changing rooms for the national representatives and 4 for the judges, 4 public bathrooms, 4 offices, training rooms, and a muscle-building room.
The enclosure is about to be delivered. (Picture: Santiago 2023).
After the Games, the building will have the legacy of being home of wrestling, judo, karate, and taekwondo, every sport will have its own space: “it’ll be an unprecedented precinct in the history of these sports in Chile, as it’ll be exclusively for these disciplines and it’ll have the best technology and equipment for the development of our athletes,” Castro added.
This is the progress in the tickets purchase for these sports:
Taekwondo (October 21st to 24th): Saturday 21st sold out.
