It was an outstanding day for sports in the Americas. During the morning of last Monday, May 8th, it was carried out the ceremony of Laureus Awards, prize destined for the outstanding athletes of the last year.
On this occasion, the Jamaican legend athlete, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (36 year old) received the prize in the female category. With an amazing career of almost two decades, in which among other successes it’s possible to mention that she has won eight Olympic medals, 2022 was a special year for the sprinter.
The above is because she achieved the milestone of five gold medals in different athletic world championships, specifically in the 100m flat test. With this, she got the third place in the historic medal count of the competition, behind Allyson Felix and her compatriot Usain Bolt.
The woman born in Kingston has won three gold medals in Olympic events, becoming the second athlete from her country that has ever received the prize after Elaine Thompson won it last year.
However, Fraser-Pryce wasn’t the only athlete of the American continent to be recognized during the ceremony carried out in Paris. In the case of the male category, the Argentinian football player Lionel Messi received for the second time in his career such a great prize.

The player of Paris Saint-Germain, France, ended his 2022 in a high level after raising the World Cup in Qatar with the Argentinian Team, a trophy that he wasn’t able to obtain during his career and his whole country had to wait 36 years to win it again. A victory that assured him a space between the greatest football players in history.
Thus, with the awards of both athletes, the season is closed with a lot of success for the region, raising the Americas among the elite of world sports, almost five months before the development of the Pan American and Parapan American Games, the greatest multisport festival of the continent.
