Chefs de Mission highlighted the progress of the Parapan American Games: “We’re happy with the organization”

Representatives of Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, and Cuba highlighted the infrastructure projects and warmth of Chilean people during the closing of the five-day seminar in our country.

After five intense days of plenary meetings, specific meetings, protocol events, and visits to the competition venues, delegates from the 33 National Paralympic Committees of the Americas ended the Parapan American Games Chefs de Mission seminar, one of the most important events prior to the multisport festival.

The general evaluation about the Santiago city, the national hospitality, and the development of the Santiago 2023 organizing committee was positive. The representative of Colombia, Carlos Barbosa, explicitly stated that: “we’re pleasingly surprised. Since we crossed the airplane door we’ve seen a high-level organization happily leaving the country because planning is at a great level.”

In addition, Brazil, which was the top medalist in Lima 2019, will come to the Games with a delegation composed of more than 500 people (considering Para athletes and the staff), and expressed its approval with what it experienced during the trip in Chile. The delegate, Jonas Freire, indicated that “we’re very happy, we received a lot of information, and we visited the sport precincts. Everything is going very great and we thank the organizing committee for this moment.”

“IN CHILE EVERYONE IS VERY NICE”

Another big delegation that will be in the Games is Mexico, a delegation that will have nearly 350 people among Para athletes, coaches, and personal support staff. The Aztec committee expects to repeat or improve the general third place achieved four years ago in Peru. “It’ll be very hard but we’ll try to do everything that we can to make it possible,” said Sergio Durand, the representative.

Beyond the competitive environment, the North American directory highlighted the reception held by the organizers, “here, in Chile, everyone has been so nice, so proactive, and attentive with us. We’ll be very good and happy, I’m sure about it,” they indicated.

Furthermore, the Cuban Jorge Palma appreciated the chance to meet the people in charge of the diverse functional areas of the Santiago 2023 Corporation. “In each place, we always counted with specialists that exposed their work with great eloquence; it’s very admirable what they’ve been achieving. We expect they keep the same or even better while we get closer to the Games,” he concluded.

The Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games will gather 33 nations from the Americas continent from November 17th to 26th, 2023. The competition schedule considers 17 sports and 18 disciplines, which will be carried out in the Region Metropolitana.
