How do you compete?
Field competitions in athletics are classified into two main categories, jumping and throwing. Among them we find the high jump, the long jump, the triple jump and the pole vault.
Besides, there are four other disciplines in throwing: the hammer throw, discus throw, javelin throw and shot put. In each of these, the technical execution, strength and precision of the athlete are crucial, since it depends on how far their shots will go.
The athletics field tests are:
the athlete must jump over a horizontal bar, located at a certain height. Each athlete has up to three opportunities to overcome a height and continue in competition.
the athlete must jump over a horizontal bar located at a previously established height using a pole. The athlete has up to three opportunities to overcome different heights and continue in competition.
the athlete must run towards the takeoff mark, where he/she executes the three jumps called the “hop”, the “bound” or “step”, and the “jump" to finally fall into the sandpit. The eight competitors who achieve the farthest distance in the first three attempts will have 3 more opportunities. The participant who makes the farthest distance within the six attempts will be the winner.
similar to the triple jump, athletes must also make an approach run heading to the takeoff mark, where they jump and fall into the sandpit. Like the triple jump, the eight competitors who achieve the greatest distance in the first three attempts will have 3 more opportunities. The participant who makes the farthest distance within the six attempts will be the winner.
the hammer consists of a metal ball attached by a steel wire (ojo, el original dice cadena, pero no tiene cadena el martillo) to a grip. The athlete must take this hammer from the handle, make turns in a progressive and controlled manner to finally throw it as far as possible.
in this competition, athletes must put (or push) a heavy spherical ball (the shot) and make it fall as far as possible. For this, they will be located in the throwing circle to execute the attempt.
here the athlete will throw a heavy disc -called discus- by performing a spin, which will allow him/her to reach the required momentum to mark a farther distance than their competitors. The discus must fall within the delimited landing sector.
for this competition, the athlete must make an approach race that allows him/her to take the greatest impulse to launch the javelin through the air as far as possible. The javelin must fall into the landing sector.
