Santiago 2023's Stars: Yenigladys Suárez, Double Cuban Medalist

She was the standout figure in Para shooting, winning two gold medals, and one of the most prominent para-athletes from the island in Santiago 2023.

Sunday, November 26th, 2023.- Yenigladys Suárez from Cuba reaffirmed her position as the leading figure in Para shooting by winning two gold medals for her country at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games.

In the previous continental event, Lima 2019, she became the first Para athlete from her country to secure a medal in Para shooting by dominating the P2-10 meters air pistol female's SH1 class (disability in the upper and/or lower limbs). In Santiago 2023, she successfully defended this title with a score of 225.1 points.

Suárez, who also holds the Parapan American record in P2-10 air pistol with a score of 227.4 achieved in Lima 2019, once again stood on the podium at Santiago 2023 after winning the P4-50m Pistol SH1 Mixed competition held at the Polígono de tiro de Pudahuel.

"I am very happy with these two new gold medals, and that's why I enjoyed them as much as the first time. The goal I had set for myself was to maintain this title for Cuba, and it's fantastic to have achieved it," commented the Cuban Para shooter, daughter of Eloína Echevarría, former Pan American champion in long jump and one of the great figures in island sports.
