Sunday, November 26th, 2023.- Among the significant milestones of the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games, there were undoubtedly five world records broken in Para athletics.
The list began with Brazilian Elizabeth Rodrigues in the female's F53 discus throw, setting a mark of 17.80. The previous record belonged to her, with 17.12.
Next up was Cuban Robiel Yankel Sol in the male's T47 long jump, with a distance of 7.74, surpassing his own record of 7.71 set earlier this year in Bogotá.
In the F37-38 javelin, Colombian José Gregorio Lemos achieved a throw of 61.76 meters, surpassing the mark he had set in March 2022 in Dubai, which was 60.58.
On the same day, Brazilian Samuel Oliveira ran the T20 400 meters in a time of 46.48, surpassing the mark set by his compatriot Daniel Tavares, who, in 2019, clocked in at 46.86.
The last record was set by Mexican Osiris Machado, who, at just 19 years old, established a new world record in the F64 discus throw, reaching 41.16 meters, surpassing the previous mark of 39.26 held by Polish athlete Faustyna Kotlowska.
