Sunday, November 26th, 2023.- The Para Chile Team achieved its best performance in the Parapan American Games by winning 16 gold medals in 11 days of competition. With a special touch, almost a third of them were secured in one afternoon, in approximately three hours.
It was a day of glory for Chile thanks to Para table tennis and powerlifting, which together totaled 11 gold medals, five of them on the afternoon of Monday, November 20.
In Para Table Tennis, the first to celebrate were Ignacio Torres and Florencia Pérez, who defeated the Brazilians Israel Pereira and Jennyfer Marques 3-2 in the XD14-17 mixed doubles.
Shortly afterward, it was the turn of Maximiliano Rodríguez and Cristián González, who won the male's doubles MD8 final 3-0 against the Brazilians Lucas Arabian and Fabio Silva.
Finally, Ignacio Torres and Matías Pino defeated the Brazilians Israel Pereira and Paulo Salmin 3-1 in the male's doubles MD14.
On the same afternoon, there were four silver medals for Chile in this sport, all in finals also against Brazilians.
Almost at the same time, at the Gimnasio Chimkowe, Chile shone in powerlifting with the victories of Camila Campos in the women's 50-55kg category and Jorge Carinao in the male's 65kg category.
Before that afternoon, the Para Chile Team had accumulated 5 gold medals (a figure that doubled in those three hours), and in the rest of the Parapan American Games, they won six more.
